Read "The Bottom Line"

Tell me what thoughts came to your mind about secondary students and this piece of writing.

  1. The bottom line expresses my thoughts exactly. Everyone should read this! I have a quote that I like to think of when things get hard. "If it were easy, everyone would do it"! I think secondary students may be inspired if they read this.

  2. The thoughts came to my mind about secondary students and this piece of writing is encouragement and motivation. These are powerful words of inspiration for secondary students. Some students may find this to difficult to accomplish. After reading these words its gives up a positive advice that no matter how hard life may get that if you want anything out of life you will have to work hard at it.

  3. Wow! To me, it takes away the students desire to complain and constantly make excuses. What a lot of students, (and people), fail to realize is that even though you can't choose your parents, family, and sometimes living conditions and situations as a child, like it says below, what you achieve or what you don't achieve is DIRECTLY related to what you have or haven't done. This reading holds you accountable. Love it.

  4. You cannot make it any clearer than “The Bottom Line”…. As the seasoned would say, “Make it Plan!” Excuses stop here! The words in this passage are the truth and I contest that it does not matter where you came from or who your real parents are; the excuses must stop and the cycle will be broken. Your past does not determine your future. You grow, you live and you learn. The words in this passage is very encouraging and allow you to understand you must take control of your life because if you don’t care enough for yourself, who will. It takes me to one of my favorite quotes…
“No one can go back and start a new beginning but anyone can start today and make a new ending”
    I Love it :-)

  5. It is amazing what some will take and build on and others will take the same and ask for the eaay way. The human spirit will grow when we open our hearts and minds. I love it that when people think a person is changing a person's life it is that person that really gets a new outlook on what is important.
Everyone enters our lives for a reason, some are blessed to know while they are with that person the reasons and the lessons, some will find out later, when they least expect it. I feel blessed by all that allow me into their worlds and are willing to share mine.

  6. "The Bottom Line" is that this is life. This could not have been said so perfectly. Life is not fair and no matter how many stones get thrown in your way, you are the one who has to move pass it to succeed in life. You only have YOURSELF to help you achieve your own ambitions.

  7. This applies to all of us. I can not stop living just because things go bad. I have had many times I would like to blame someone else. Each person has to keep on trying that is what life is.

  8. This piece of writing is very clear in its direction to students who try to "throw in the towel," because they "inherit" this idea that they are no good, or they are only as good as their parents, etc. It encourages students to overcome what the world tells them that they are and to strive to become who they think they can become and who they want to become. I like how it says "excuses are for losers." Although this is a very abrupt way to put it, this is often the only type of language that students respond to. It encourages students to believe in themselves, and to take control of their lives. Although routines and ways of life start from what you learn as a child with your family, it is never to late to search for your own routines and potential in order to find your own individual success.

  9. The Bottom Line is literal. When you get done with all the whining, excuses, procrastination, and hesitation; the bottom line is "it is up to you." This means for EVERYONE of us. "Everyone has obstacles to overcome, so overcome them; but we prepare to overcome the obstacles that come our way. When we fail to prepare, we prepare to fail."

  10. 1. What have you learned by studying the state of secondary education and curriculum?

    2. How many new skills have you acquired during this course? Learning to do "T-notes." Next year, I have been assigned to teach enriched students as well as regular ed students. It was a challenge this year to get the students to take notes. The will be doing "T notes" next year.

    3. Where are the issues of secondary students focused? Fitting in or getting out. What I mean by that is, they either want to fit in or they are ready to get out of school period.

    4. How can you influence new understandings of your subject with secondary students? Using more diagnostic assessments; trying to narrow down what they really understand and what they struggle with.

    5. What was the biggest challenge of completing your assignments? Getting started. I would like to work on my assignments everyday, but I pulled in so many directions it seems that times ends up being the challenge, and sometimes - a clear understanding.

  11. The thoughts came to my mind about secondary students and this piece of writing is support and impetus. Excuses are tools of incompetence! We should all want to move from excellence to preeminence!

  12. I believe that many students and people in general use their various situations as excuses for their shortcomings rather than building stones to propel them to their futures. Everyone experiences trials and challenges, but winners are able to take those stumbling blocks and transform them into life experiences that motivate them to seek greatness. Those who choose to be "losers" just stumble and never try to get back up even when there are outreached hands to help them regain their footing. Fear to fail is fear to succeed. We have to keep pushing our way to the top, because God has given us the capabilities to make it to where He resides.
